Forest Church is all about exploring faith and spirituality through the natural world!
It’s church, but not as you know it. It doesn’t have walls, for starters, or the need to sit still, unless you want to! It’s about having the space to simply ‘be’, to connect with God, with nature, with something bigger than yourself.
Everyone is welcome, no matter your age, abilities or background. There’s no expectations to believe or behave in a certain way (except for being respectful for one another and for nature). We don’t come with answers to life, the universe and everything else, just some good questions which we figure out together, as a community!
You might think this is a new thing, but before we had church buildings, people always worshipped outdoors! Over the past decade, though, we have seen a growing interest in seeking a spiritual connection that is more nature-based. Forest Church has roots in Celtic spirituality, draws inspiration from the wisdom traditions, and is even inspired by Forest Schools, it’s all about letting nature be the teacher.
In this, our first foray into the wild, we will be ‘hosting’ Forest Church on 3 sites, which just so happen to be community garden spaces! They are places you can gently wander or take part in simple activities, as well as perch and rest at the various sitting places. Afterwards, there will be the opportunity to gather at the local Methodist Church for a simple meal, chatting, simple activities, and sometimes having a guest speaker. Feel free to join for as much or as little as you’re comfortable with!
We don’t want anything to be a barrier, Forest Church is free to come along to! That being said, donations are always welcome to help cover the cost of food and activities.
